Meet Abbey

Abbey is a very proud Kiwi and Hufflepuff who moved over from New Zealand when she was 19 as a stopover on her way to travel the world, however she met a boy fell in love and 13 years later they are happily married with an 18 month old little girl.

Now I bet you are now wondering if she traveled the world and she absolutely did, 28 countries and still going. Eloping to Greece for her wedding is the top of her highlight reel. The second favourite trip is a road trip around Scotland. Once travel is easily accessible again she will be taking bub on her first international trip to Japan!

After living in Toowoomba for 8 years Abbey and her husband moved to the Sunshine Coast where they had their little girl and have just returned to the beautiful Toowoomba a few weeks ago so she can grow up around her family. They have a very busy few months ahead renovating their new home and learning to garden as they embark on a journey of being a bit more self sufficient and sustainable. If you have any tips and tricks for growing veggies in Toowoomba send them her way.

Abbey is an avid reader who is currently on her 22nd book of the year, she said the Court of Thorns and Roses series is now her all time favourite (other than Harry Potter). She is happy to give out recommendations if you’re looking for your next read.

Abbey joined Ko Spaces as our Community Host in our spaces but I quickly learned that she is so much more than that and has shown a keen interest in marketing and I couldn’t be more happier to have her on our Virtual Ko team

How To Spring Clean Your Wellness

As the weather goes from freezing to warm and we start to come out of hibernation, most of us do a spring clean of our homes. For some of us, we use this time to start getting ready for Christmas and a fresh new year. But before we can start this preparation, let’s take a moment to think of our wellness and add it to your Spring Clean list.

Spring

Here are my top tips for a Wellness Spring Clean:

– Step outside and smell the flowers. it’s such a beautiful time of year when everything is starting to bloom, we are so lucky in Toowoomba to have access to so much beautiful nature and the bonus you get some extra Vitamin D.

– Stay hydrated. Keeping hydrated has been linked to faster decision making and improved performance. If you find water boring, you could buy a fun water bottle or add some fruit slices into the water. As you drink the smell, hit your nose and it is said to trick your taste buds into tasting what you smell.

– Eat well. We are so lucky to live in a place with access to fresh locally grown produce. Plan ahead and pack your lunch with all things good. Have your snacks ready, especially when the 3pm slump hits.

– Move your body. Taking a walk around your local area will also cover tip one but if you’re looking for something a bit more challenging, why not join a local fitness challenge or sign up with a local personal trainer.

If you’ve made it this far through the wellness spring clean then you deserve to treat yourself. Buy that bag, book that holiday, go to your favourite restaurant. You’ve earned it and deserve to have time out!

Now you can lie back, enjoy the summer heat in a freshly Spring cleaned mind and body.

Tested Booktok recommendations just for you

If you are a reader you’ve probably heard the term Booktok, but if you haven’t search the hashtag on any social media of your choosing and hop into this life-changing magical world of book recommendations and let these incredibly creative people take over part of your life, you’ll love it I promise. Whatever genre, species, love interest you have in mind, Booktok has a sub branch for you.

Booktok | Books | Reading | Toowoomba

Two of the biggest names in the book world right now are Colleen Hoover and Sarah J Mass. While both of them had written many books and had a following, Tiktok blew them and their sales up! Colleen Hoover knows how to unexpectedly tug on your heart strings and give you thoughts you may only put together after many psychology sessions (It Ends With Us is a good example here). Sarah J Mass has created this magical realm that we never knew we needed, with a story and characters that are so epic when we see it on screen it has the potential to cause a Harry Potter sized phenomenon.

If you’re already a reader or are wanting to start, here are 5 Booktok recommendations tested by an avid reader to get you started:

1. A Court of Thorns and Roses(series) by Sarah J Mass (Fantasy Fiction, which court will you belong to?)

2. Verity by Colleen Hoover (Romance Thriller that will leave you arguing with yourself)

3. Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo (Fantasy and also a cheat for those who want to be involved but not read you can watch the TV series)

4. The Invisible Life of Addie Larue by V.E Schwab (Fantasy/Historical Fiction and such a beautiful story)

5. The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes (Mystery that is very twisty)

Books are now accessible in so many ways and we are all busy people, if you don’t have time to read a physical book give audio books a go, sometimes they are better than the novel (Stephen Fry we are looking at you!)

Be sure to let us know in the comments below or head back to our socials to keep the conversation going 🙂

Add Inspiration to Your Workday

With the work week getting more demanding and the number of hours worked, increasing to sometimes over 40, getting inspired about your work day is another way to look after yourself and your business.

workday

Getting inspiration for your work day will result in increased productivity, and decreased exhaustion when you get home at the end of the day.

Here are some ways to boost your inspiration for your work day:

Lets start with visual inspiration. It may be as simple as a quote or a picture of your family, but seeing something that makes you happy will brighten your day and keep your mind clearer. Stuck for ideas? Think of your favourite thing in the world, that one thing that makes you smile every time, print a picture of it and put it somewhere you will always see it.

A cluttered space means a cluttered mind. Clear it out, move it, hide it. Whatever works for you but your work area should be clutter free and clean. Set aside 15 minutes at the end of your day to tidy up your space and wipe everything down so when you come in the next day you can start fresh and your mind can focus on other wonderful things.

I know this may sound silly however as the saying goes, lead by example. Put a smile on your face and yes we all vent to our co-workers but leave the negative stuff to a minimum. Keep things positive, include someone in your conversation who doesn’t usually speak up. I promise happy positive people, inspire each other and you will thrive working in that environment.

Inspiration comes into our days in so many ways, start with these suggestions and it will snowball from there as others join in. Your work is a part of you so take care of it and set it up to take care of you.

Is a VA a Waste of Money?

With the current climate of the world right now EVERYONE is trying to save money. We are tightening up around the home, our weekly food bill and only putting what we need into our cars because fuel is so damn expensive.

As we tighten all our personal expenses, we turn our attention to our business expenses. So it’s only natural to ask ourselves, “is paying for someone to help us out right now a waste of money?”

I would say NO, and here’s why.

A VA also known as a Virtual Assistant can help you grow your business, share the workload and the biggest benefit and money saving option within your business is to enjoy employee benefits without paying for employee costs ie PAYG and Super, not to mention the paperwork!

We are in business to grow and make more money, right? Having a VA can support you in doing this. Having a VA allows you to step away from those mundane tasks that suck all your energy, which in turn prevent you from focusing on growth. Having a VA, free’s you up to work on the high level activities that will support your business growth.

Delegation: It can be hard to let go of control but if we want to grow in business, we need to let others help us. Having a VA on board helps you delegate tasks such as Administration work, marketing, social media management, customer service, content writing or website refreshes.
Giving these tasks to a VA will not only free up your time and energy, but will also allow you to focus on the bigger picture. And another bonus of delegating these types of tasks to a VA, will allow you to be more consistent in these areas of business. We have all heard we need to show up on social media, but it’s so time consuming and you never know what to write. Delegating social media to a VA takes away all this stress.

The final point for having a VA, is that you receive all the employee benefits without paying the employee costs. There’s no superannuation, payroll, sick days or extra equipment needed that you need to worry about. Let a VA support you in your business venture.

In conclusion, is a VA a waste of money? Well that answer is up to you, but I would say, if you want to grow your business with less stress, worry and employee expenses, and have more time, energy, space to grow and focus on the bigger picture, having a VA is a very cost effective solution.

If you’re ready to see what a VA can support you with, we have very affordable options for you.
